Northernglogirl has been busy with Little Bear this summer.

Off we went to fairs around the countryside, visiting children and

their families. Little Bear has a delightful Learn to Read activity.

There are story cards for children to manipulate, suggestions for parental interactions,different reading levels,colouring pages,and a star, all organized in a keepsake organza bag. It is an ideal gift for a baby shower, for a toddler's birthday, or for the babysitter to share with your children.

Little Bear and Northernglogirl will be putting on their skates and booties to attend Christmas Fairs in the Ottawa area and surrounding towns. We hope to see you there!

It was wonderful to have an opportunity to showcase my work for the Skating Clubs in the surrounding communities. In addition to painting skates with a club logo, using the skates as a "canvas" has given me a unique artistic venue. Creating a pair of skates, with a design according to personal wishes, is a request I love to fill. Of most delight, I find in painting a pair of personal childhood skates that then become a cherished memory. It's all in the detail!

To combine a favourite old toy with booties decorated in a vintage design conveys a very sentimental sense of nostalgia. There is an ackowledgement and celebration of times past, a time of childhood exuberance. Where have those childhood dreams gone? To what paths did they direct us to follow, in those little footsteps of long ago?

This is a very unique way to display a little pair of booties. Imagine the little girl declaring that she wanted to be a pilot when she grew up. She hitched her wagon to the stars and her family can treasure that childhood dream on their family wall of photos and treasures.

Cherished Memories

This is a story of a very cherished pair of baby booties. Four sisters wore them over the years. Now, many, many years later, the little shoes have been made into a even more treasured family heirloom. One of the younger sisters asked to have them painted for the oldest sister. Specific requests were made regarding the design-to be white, with holly.

With a final embellishment of gold foil, these little booties have become a cherished memory that brings a unique decoration to the family Christmas tree for years and generations to come. A special thank you is extened to the family for giving me this opportunity of artistic joy.

It is part of a program SEWING FOR SURVIVAL to enable women of the Arctic to make some money and at the same time improve the quality of their lives through the creative use of their indigenous skills. In a tiny little village, in a tiny little house, in a tiny little room, a tiny little lady is painting tiny little skates for tiny little children and other not-so-tiny people. Enjoy an imaginary snowsleigh ride to see her colourful creations. They are meant as keepsakes to hangup in memory of a wonderful special skating event in your life!
